AGFS Headquarters in Evansville, Indiana
  • 1920 - Interstate Finance Corporation founded in Evansville, IN to underwrite sales of motor vehicles
  • 1928 - Interstate granted a state license for making small loans
  • 1929 - Interstate Agency formed to write credit-related insurance
  • 1930 - First branch office opened in Washington, IN
  • 1934 - Company expands across state line by opening branches in Owensboro, KY and Henderson, KY
  • 1943 - Acquisition of Evansville Morris Plan, a firm which features larger loans
  • 1957 - 100th branch milestone reached
  • 1960 - Company stock listed on the Over the Counter Market
  • 1963 - Announcement of construction of new headquarters building at 601 NW Second St., Evansville
  • 1963 - CrediThrift of America and CreditWay of America branch operating names first used
  • 1966 - Corporate name changed to CrediThift Financial Incorporated
  • 1969 - Common stock listed on New York Stock Exchange
  • 1972 - 500th branch milestone reached
  • 1979 - Receivables reach $1 Billion
  • 1982 - CrediThrift acquired by American General Corporation
  • 1983 - Acquisition of General Finance with 350 branches in 16 states
  • 1983 - Major headquarters building expansion announced
  • 1988 - Acquisition of Manufacturers Hanover Consumer Services expands company to 1,400+ branch offices in 43 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
  • 1988 - American General Finance branch operating name first used
  • 1990 - Corporate name changed to American General Finance, Inc.
  • 1990 - Private Label retail program launched
  • 1994 - Retail Division relocated to newly constructed building on eastside Evansville
  • 2001 - American General Corporation acquired by American International Group (AIG)
  • 2005 - Assets reach $25 Billion
  • 2006 - Major headquarters building expansion announced
